We’re sorry to announce that Terry Kennedy was the victim of a shooting in Long Beach, California. Thankfully, he lived through it and is recovering like the soldier he is. He’ll be skating again soon. All cheer and good wishes can be sent to Terry Kennedy, c/o Baker, 7095 Hollywood Blvd., #817, Los Angeles, California 90028. Using a gun is the ultimate display of cowardice.
In an unexpected move, Darrell Stanton has parted ways with Real. What will his future board sponsor plan be?
The first Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza opened on June 11 in Kettering, Ohio. There was a massive pro demo and best-trick contest before the park was opened to the public. Chris Cole stole the show and walked away with 32,000 dollars before the 1,000-plus anxious spectators were allowed to session until dark. The much-anticipated plaza was a smashing success. DC will be releasing a DVD in August covering the construction of the park, the opening weekend, and instructions on how to get one in your town. The DVD will cost only one dollar, and all the money raised will go to the Skate Plaza Foundation. Check skateboarding.com and dcfilms.com for photos and video footage, and be sure to go to skateplaza.com to find out how to get the ball rolling in your hometown. It’s well worth it.

A big supporter of skateboarding lately, Red Bull has been throwing contest purse and sponsorship money around as much as they give out free beverages. Along the way, they’ve amassed a nice little team. Danny Supa, Zered Bassett, Greg Lutzka, Joey Brezinski, Ron Deily, Brandon Westgate, and Joe Tookmanian are all getting that sweet caffeine rush.

The Seventh Annual TransWorld SKATEboarding Awards took place once again at Hollywood’s Henry Fonda Music Box Theater. On June 3. Pros, ams, industry guys, and the biggest celebrities in skateboarding came together to drink free Red Bull and rejoice. After stellar announcing from the likes of Brian Schaefer, Clyde Singleton, and Nate Sherwood, the new TransWorld video First Love premiered. Jon Holland and Jason Hernandez did it again with an amazing video. Omar Salazar seemed to be the crowd favorite, but Shiloh Greathouse, Ryan Gallant, Richard Angelides, and Leo Romero all came through with remarkable parts. After the show, madness spilled onto the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard. Brian Schaefer was seen beating veteran photographers into the gutters, while many tipsy skaters mobbed Hollywood haunts like Beauty Bar and Nationale. Boosh was seen in the piano lounge of the Chateau Marmont serenading Mary-Kate Olsen, while Leo Romero took to being an impromptu Terry Richardson in the eye of a debaucherous hurricane in his suite. There may be photographic evidence floating around somewhere-stranger things have happened.
