Against Me!
New Wave
Sire
** (2.5/5.0)
This band has a good sound, I think. They need to work on a few things like lyrics, and the dude singing needs to chill out on the yelling. It sounds like he wishes he was in Slayer but this was the best he could do. Most of the songs on New Wave kind of have this bouncy rock feel to them—if the singer chills out a bit and puts a bit more vocal range in and makes the lyrics a little better, then they could be onto something good. But then again, too much bouncy, catchy drums and beats… sh-t gets annoying sometimes. Let me see, I give them two-and-a-half stars. The band could also speed their sh-t up a few notches and just get into the metal scene—then the singing would be perfect. A little double bass and keytar never hurt anyone.—Chris Haslam
