This Is The News 7.23.01

On July 7, 2001 Emerica skateboard footwear donated cement and tools for the construction of a new obstacle at the famed Volcano spot in Brooklyn New York. An abandoned ship factory surrounds the Volcano area and was used to build Navy ships during World War 2. The land has been labeled as unsafe to build new structures (such as buildings) due to the level of toxins in the soil from years of dumping and pollution from neighboring factories. The land has a concrete foundation that is smooth and proves to be awesome for skateboarding. A few skateboarders decided to build a concrete volcano cause there were no skate parks in the immediate area. After the Volcano wasbuilt, another group of skaters built a quarter pipe. Soon after theconstruction other make shift obstacles began to appear including a flat bar, a metal cabinet, a bench with metal corners, a few jump ramps andrandom junk fashioned into skate obstacles. Currently, the area has twoobstacles with a third one under construction.  There were plans to build another obstacle, but due to the lack of funds the project was halted. Emerica footwear stepped in and donated cement and tools to start the project. Skaters showed up of all ages and lent a helping hand in the construction of the new obstacle. Completion of the new quarter pipe with two hips is expected to be finished in August as long as the cops don’t shut the project down.
