Price-point-skateboard distributor Variflex recently found that its X-Games helmets, which are made by a third-party manufacturer, do not meet applicable U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standards, as stated on the helmets. While the company hasn’t received notice of any injuries resulting from this, it has contacted the CPSC to initiate a recall of the product. Variflex believes that about 150,000 of the twenty-dollar X-Games helmets have been sold since October 1999. The company says it has asked retailers to cease sales and remove the remaining helmets from their shelves.
