Jon Newport won the Regional West event for theDamn Am Series at the VolcomWarehouse over the weekend of July28-29. Jon rides for 510, Satori, andVenture.

Chad Bartie just got home from aweekend at Woodward skate camp. Hewas there to work with a director who is making ìThe Matrixî styleskateboarding clips for ESPNís X-Games. Try to imagine a skateboarder frozenmid-trick while the camera pans around 360 degrees or whatever. Special effectsare the future of skateboarding!

Brief X-Games wrap up

Hometown favorite Kerry Getz won the ìReal Streetî contest. Rodil won street course. Bob Burnquist won vert. Andy and Tony won the vertdoubles as always.Matt Dovewon best trick vert. And Rick McCrankwon best trick street.

Justin Strubing is still in Spain,and loving every minute. He says the spots are so deep out there, and no onehas gotten any coverage at any of the places heís been hitting.

Andrew Reynolds has been in L.A.,collecting tricks for his Emericapart with Emerica/Baker ams BryanHerman and Knox Godoy. Emerica filmer Jon Miner says Reynoldsí part islooking good.

Donny Barley is hosting skatecampsfor kids at Skater Island in RI for the next two weeks. Turn out has been greatand Donny has been representing Emerica and showing off his shoe to all thekids.

Santa Cruz Skateboards Team Member, Eric Bork, has decided to leave the world of professionalskateboarding for two years to pursue a spiritual path. The entire team willmiss traveling, filming and doing demos with Eric, but is proud of him forpursuing what his heart believes in. If he is still skateboarding two yearsfrom now upon returning from his Mission, he will undoubtedly still have a homeat Santa Cruz. We wish him well in his travels to Lima, Peru.

RictaSlims and 98′s to be introduced at this Sept’s ASR. Slims are slimmer, lighter wheels for easy flip andcontrol. Even though the wheels are thin, the road surfaces are just wideenough to prevent flatspotting. The 98′s are just that. 98 durometer wheelsdesigned for slick-concrete park riding. Ultra fast with good grip and acontrolled slide.

Blind’s James Craig will be going to Canada at the end of this month withCirca for a couple of AutographSessions. He says his knee feels really good already and sometimes wants to goout and skate but his Trainer and Doctor say he shouldn’t skate for another twoor three months. In the meantime he’s been keeping himself busy working withhis friends record label Patchworks.

Josh Kasperis ck in “full” force skating huge gaps and sets of stairs. He’scurrently in Japan doing some demos with Osiris and attending a tradeshow.

Gershon Mosley got back a few days ago from a two month trip to Europe and jumpedstraight on a plane to join the rest of the Globe team for a small U.S tour.

Ronnie Creager has been extremely busy as of late, he just finished a video part forthe New Tilt Mode Army Video “Mandown“. He’s traveling back and forth from the U.S to China working onhis new shoe company Nadia Footwear.

Corey Sheppard finished filming for his part in the next 411 Control Chaos Section. Not Only did Corey also join RonnieCreager’s new shoe co. NadiaFootwear but he also moved into his house.

Landsdowne in Maryland, a spotthat has been free to skate for over 20 years, is now supervised and full padsare required. The story goes that a kid on a bike went a broke both his wriststhere and his parents sued. Now supervision is required and the locals are upin arms.

Deca’s Daewon Song is pretty much done with his part for the upcomingFull Length Deca Video. He’ll be out in the East Coast with the DVS crew later on this month doing some demos.

Chris Haslamis the newest addition to the Deca roster. On a recent visit to California heentered the World War 3 Contestand took home 9th! He also rides for Momentum Wheels.

Gailea Momolu has been a traveling man as of late, upon his return from the EuropeContest he joined Luis Cruz andsome World guys for a tour ofMexico. When he got back from Mexico he entered the World War 3 Contest withall the Big Boys and came out with 16th place! A day after thecontest he jumped on a plane and headed to Canada where he will join some Dwindle riders for a tour.

DC’s Josh Kalis did compete in the X Games first as-real-as-possible streetcompetition. A week before the traditional events began, ten skateboarders hitthe streets around Philadelphia’s City Hall, making use of all the ledges,rails, and other natural obstacles they want to include in their lines. Theevent will air on ABC September 19th

at 1pm EST, so check it out.

Along with Colin McKay, Danny Way,Stevie Williams, Kenny Hughes, Brian Wenning and Robbie McKinley, DChas added the ever-so-flashy Rob Dyrdek to its apparel team.

Enjoi’s Rodney Mullen just got back from a trip to Russia with MarcJohnson and the On Video crew, expect to see the article in a future issue ofOn Video. One day after his return he also jumped on a plane to join the restof the Globe team for some demosacross the U.S.

After returning from Russia, Marc Johnson headed straight for San Jose where he just recentlyrented a three bedroom house for the Enjoi team to hang out when they go down to Tilt Mode Headquarters. Marcwill also have a Full Part in the Upcoming Tilt Mode Video “Mandown”,that should be out in mid September. The filming is now completed.

Jose Rojohas been added to the Lucky Bearingsteam.

New addition to the Enjoi team Chris Cole entered the World War 3 Contest and came out in 5thplace and with a check for $2000.

Ryan Scheckler and Aaron Snyder have beenadded to the Tensor team.

Chany Jeanguenin now rides for Osiris.

Stacy Loweryhas returned from the East Coast where he has been coaching skate camp at EasternBoarder.

Damian Smithhas quit his job in order to skate as much as possible and is currentlycruising around Philly at 100 mph. Look for his part in the upcoming THRASHERvideo.

Jason Odell,Santa Cruz’s newest am, is backskating after wrecking his ankle 1 week after being put on the team. Herecently returned from the Santa Cruz Skate and Snow Tour of the PacificNorthwest where he was busy working on his tranny skills.

Special Olympics Nevada today announced that it will be the beneficiary of Real Action Sports & RAS2001 “Best of the West” first “Las Vegas Rollin’ Classic”. An Amateur skateboard competition to be held at the Sports Center on Sunset Blvd. (Formally All American Sports park). The event will take place on September 1st 2001. This event is being modeled after Bard Aid. This event will also raise awareness for the needs of those individuals with developmental disabilities in our community particularly among the youth.

Willy Akers won another Beast of the East contest. This time at FDR in Philadelphia.
