Fourth Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest
NorCal hero’s spirit lives on.
It was actually hard to tell a contest was going on at the Vans skatepark in Milpitas, California. While the modestly sized street course played host for the amateur contest, the rest of the park was open for free reign-the Winchester Washboard replica, the Mickey Mouse bowl, the Clam Shell replica bowl, and two mini ramps were heavily sessioned.
As morning turned to afternoon, more spectators, skaters, and contestants entered the domain of the Fourth Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest. Vans’ Steve Van Doren was at the event manning the smorgasbord of munchies, making sure everyone had a plate full of food. And as afternoon slipped into evening, the am contest finalized, and the Clam Shell session was just heating up.
Like a cauldron put on a fire to boil, one after another, people dropped in to add some heat to the session (sometimes in twos, threes, fours, and mores). It’s difficult to convey in words the energy and intensity witnessed live during the bowl jam. Next year you’ll have to make the trek to Northern California’s Milpitas Vans skatepark and see for yourself why this contest is so special.
Upwards of 9,500 dollars was collected for the Tim Brauch Skatepark Fund this year. Sessions clothing is looking to make the first endowment to the 22,000-square-foot skatepark project being planned in Scotts Valley, California.
Special thanks goes to Sessions for organizing the event, Vans Milpitas skatepark and Steve Van Doren for the hospitality, World Cup Skateboarding for assisting with the logistics, and Tim Brauch for being an inspiration for so many.
