The World Industries am spotlight prelims and the first half of the Volcom Street Pro Prelims went down yesterday. I know what you’re thinking: “But there’s already a video up of all of that stuff.” And, while you’re correct, there’s some detrás de las escenas stuff that I shot some flicks of so, here’s to justifying my job. Enjoy….
They were just standing there drinking a beer, when one of the announcers called out that Black Label associate Lance Conklin and Tony Trujillo looked like they could be a band up on stage. It’s plausible. Even more so with that dude with the crazy hair and green shorts. What kind of music do you think they’d play?
Only a portion of the greats that were there: Malto, Torey Pudwill, Alex Olson, Stefan Janoski, and Omar Salazar.
While Filipe Ortiz was skating, someone leaned over to me and goes, “It’s crazy that the guy from Get Him to the Greek is skating.” Bluntslide.
This is the reason a contest like Maloof’s fun for the true fan of skateboarding – a dude that made a name for himself at EMB and had a part in Love Child is there along with a dude like Dylan Rieder, who’s break-out part was years later in A Time to Shine.
Danny Cerezini was there.
This is Kieran Reilly. He’s Australian. This is a bean plant on the wall. Someone was talking about how Kieran was part Aboriginal. This is what he said about it in some interview: “I’m the great-grandson of Leeton Smith, the last man of the Aboriginal tribe ‘Dhungutti Nation’ to have been culturally initiated into manhood which usually occurred at the time between 12 to 16 years.” Kid rips.
And – oh shit! – Kareem Campbell? Hell yeah.
Soon, the lights (the sun) went down and the judges sat down with their iPads and began the tallying of points. From the look of some of the people behind them, something awesome just happened.
Probably something like Dennis Busenitz’s 400 mile per hour back tailslide.
Damn it! If Tommy Flynn were Australian instead of a Kiwi I could have captioned this “Australian sandwich” or “Philly cheese steak with vegemite” or something. Oh well. Tommy Flynn, Ishod Wair and Dane Burman watch from their feet. And, Torey Pudwills sitting down to keep that energy for pure annihilation later on.
Annihilation like this boned out frontside air. Yes, that’s Torey catching hangtime. Turns out he’s got tech tricks and tranny skills.
The heat with Torey and Sierra Fellers. Just stretchin’.
Torey about 75% into a backtail 270 out. He did in fact complete this, as you saw in the vid.
Agh! Alex Olson with a frontside air. Hard not thinking of his dad a little bit, right? He actually yanked this in so much, he pushed his legs up with the board. Pretty sick!
