Why the East Coast/New York is so hot right now in skateboarding: 1) Lot's of old skaters, for whom the east coasts style of ollies and grinds is much more relatable and enjoyable as a result, as compared to the flip in flip out stuff happening elsewhere. 2) The internet has made it way easier to put east coast stuff out, and it's catching eyes. For example without the internet I might never have seen this La Luz part. 3) To finish on a more cynical note, marketing companies see an unsaturated market. If you read a Jason Dill interview he's happy to explain that in Southern California you grow up with skateboarding around, you wear Vans and have a pro board just because.... Companies see the potential for that on the East Coast, so a Maloof or a Street League will get the sponsorship dollars needed to have a contest there (or even build a park at flushing). That's my take on it anyway, this post is probably better suited to the Transworld Business website.
