Last night in Simi Valley, California, hundreds of pros, locals, family, and friends gathered at Skatelab to commemorate the life of Van Wastell. His death twelve days ago was a shock to all of us. It was a tragic, sudden end to a young man burgeoning on limitless possibilities on board and off. But Van led a beautiful life. He was a skateboarder, a musician, and a seeker, and those in attendance—who knew Van personally or who merely knew of his contributions—were there to celebrate him. Below is a slideshow of some of the skate jam’s attendees and background on Van’s early stomping grounds, Skatelab.

Van Wastell’s funeral service took place at 1 p.m. today at the Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park & Crematory in Camarillo, California. A memorial fund has been established to help the Wastell family—if you would like to contribute, deposits can be made at Wells Fargo branches to the account #8352614187. Checks should be written to: “Van Wastell Memorial Fund.”
