Zumiez 100K 2009 In Keystone, Colorado

For those of you that don’t know, the Zumiez 100K is a two-day snow trip extravaganza for any Zumiez retail employee that sells over $100,000 worth of product. It starts with a day on the mountain and ends with a blowout of a party with all the biggest and best skaters and snowboarders under one roof. With last year’s theme along the Willy Wonka sort, and life-size chocolate couches with teeth marks in ‘em and oompa loompas running around, I was a bit surprised when I was told this year was going to be bigger than the last. But, it was. There were more skaters than ever, a real live elephant on stage (don’t know how they pulled that one off), and two of my heroes and life long inspirations (seriously), Ponch from CHiPs and Greg Brady, made it out to cap off this year’s 70s theme.
So, good times once again, plenty of mayhem inside and outside of the party, and we’re looking forward to what Zumiez gots planned for next year. Here’s some photos from our trip.

Zumiez has alot of cool Skate & Snowboard stuff. It’s just way 2 DAMN CORPORATE though!-To be a real Skatebording SHOP in the U.S. I also think that Zumiez is kinda like the Wal-Mart. Of all skate-Snowboard Shops!!

Skateboarding needs more Corps Skate Shops, from the MidWest!! Kinda like DSK8 in Fargo, ND. Also 3rd Lair in Minneapolis-Golden Valley, MN. Zumiez is a (FAKE ASS MALL SKATE SHOP!) To all those Skateboarders that purchase their Boards,Griptape,Wheels, Trucks,Bearings,Hardware,SkateShoes & Clothing. @ a NON CORPORATE SKATE SHOP.

Just the fact that there is $100K to be sold by individual employees on our sports shows how far we have come. I remember Zumiez when they were just a few stores. They definitely aren’t replacing street level boardshops, but they definitely provide a great alternative and somewhere to hang out while your parents drag your ass to the mall. Plus they have always supported tours and in-stores which keep the circus of skate teams out in full force. Love em or hate em, they are a part of skating nowadays.

ok zumiez is ok ive gotten alot of good deals there that would cost me a fortune at west 49. its definetly not as good as a real skate store but its better than west 49.

i would be homeless without a zumiez paycheck. honestly, so would a lot of your favorite pros. my corp shop doesn’t sell even a quarter of the vendors that zumiez does… do i still support my local corp shop? of course, all true skate kids do (or should!). but in a free enterprise market there is most certainly room for both. the economy, the sport and the people that rely on it need that competition. it drives sales up and prices down. so, whatever. we’re all dirt bags in some way.

Zumiez may not be your local mom n pop shop but they sell almost the same merch but more and they give GREAT customer service which makes people come back again…Tom started out the company as one store on his own…just like your local shops. if your local shops sold alot of merch and gave great service they too would make more money, start up more stores, and eventually go corp too. thats just business…sometimes you cant do it all on your own and you wanna keep giving.not only does zumiez make money and keep on growing but Tom gives back too all his employees whove been busting their butts, as well as giving back to the community by throwing free sk8 events (couch tour, best foot forwad) and starting a foundation to help clothe thousands of needy families! look into it before you judge

zumiez is not the reason your core shop is going out of business. If the customer service was a positive experience instead of an elitist nose-in-the-air hate fest then your “core” shop would appeal to more than the marginalized group of haters. It’s not core skaters that keep the ma & pop going. It’s core skater’s pretty moms.

I had the same impression as all of you haters befor i got my job at zumez. I went to 100k. I am a sponsored skater. I partied it up with some cool bro’s and met some pros. If you worked there and made it to the trip you would think otherwise. Chances are if your saying zumiez is gay; its only because a couple things…. you either are the local shop whore who just wants friends by going to that shop,or your just not good enoughf for yourself. You dont know buisness. all this merch is coming from the same place… the shops are just jelous because zumiez is able to supply more and you are mulnipulated by that.

There’s nothing wrong with doing something you love. I know I love my job, I love my longboard, and I love my snowboard. I love the fact that the company I work for has sent me to Colorado, northern MN, and Seattle to grow, learn, and help spread what I love. There’s nothing wrong with building a company around your customers and we’ve been doing it for 30 years, obviously we did something right. We do what we love and we help other people discover their passions, and I know that I’m just as close to my local shops as you ‘core kids’ and send people there all the time for what I don’t have. I know my parks and support local business, and I also work at the number 1 store in the company. So next time you want to complain about a “corporate” shop, why don’t you look at the name on your board and say “damn I do love american corporations” Welcome to capitalism mo fo’s, and if you don’t like it move to canada. And don’t use the word ‘gay’ to piss on something, get a bit more creative and stop discriminating.

I have something to say, about Aloe Vera, something about which you wrote above, about health and weight management… For a long time, I and my fine friend use the products of the forever living company. We always see the good results and also we earn money for our families and we are happy.
