Rob Dyrdek Opens New Skate Plaza In L.A.

We all know what Rob and the DC did in Ohio. And we all know what Rob’s been working on in L.A. as of late. So, it was only a matter of time before Rob got with DC and the city of Los Angeles and opened a new plaza right in the heart of L.A. Called the Lafayette Park Safe Spot, this new plaza is right outside downtown Los Angeles and is apart of a new plaza building program that gives cities the ability to get real street skateable terrain built on limited budgets and in limited space confines.

The place is pretty sick. At 7,000 square feet, it’s a bit on the smaller side, but it flows like a real street spot with perfect ledges of all sorts and plenty of flat ground. There’s a cement bank in the shape of a Carl’s Jr. star in the middle of it all, which is kinda weird, but it’s cool to see a new spot pop up right in the mix of the craziness of L.A.

Google map it, and go skate!

  • Dave NJ Says:

rob dyrdek is not a sell out kid, you need to sit back and learn something about skateboarding, you’re not a sell out if you’re giving back to skateboarding, by making these safe skate spots, hes giving back to skateboarders, so you need to learn a thing or two before you go run your mouth about an awesome guy

  • skeeter Says:

    soo true.

  • Sean R. Says:

How can you call a guy a sellout if he’s endorsing a plaza FOR SKATEBOARDERS? He’s not going to financially benefit off of this, he’s just being a good guy. You’re an idiot, kid.

  • Sellout Says:

I am really starting to dislike Rob. Why would you open a Skatepark in LA? Spoiled cali kids have everything, parks, schools, perfect spots, bitch spots. I would have rather seen something in Philly/NY/Boston/Chitown.

  • MOJO Says:

eh.. kind of lame how the kids just come and go gettin’ their autograph, thank the Rob for making it happen

  • ChiSkater Says:

I respect the guy. He’s a legend and has been around for so long. But man, Cali’s got enough spots! AND GOOD WEATHER. We need these spots where the months to skate are short and a good spot is needed. No disrespect to the park, but we need a spot in Chicago! The skating scene is sooo good here, but besides Wilson, there is hardly a good park to skate.

  • Anonymous Says:

cali has alot spots but every single spot is a bust. no lie, or atleast in LA, you got to go late at night to film a trick or do the trick first or second try during the day, which i cant so i normally get kicked out haha. SF and SD arent too bad though.

  • Ambassador_DJ Says:

  • d-_-b Says:

wow… i would giveanything skate those places homie… just cause we live in cali doesnt mean were spoiled.. $500 for skate tickets are what we “spoiled” kids pay for we just got lucky our weather is awsome out here.. i’ve been to all the spots you listed and trust me, there are more spots out there than here.. chitown alone is massive. put it together with NY, and man, you need to travel son. step yo skate game up and travel some spots before you talk!!

  • Joe Says:

Rob is awesome.Hes giving back to the skate community ,building skateplazas instead of sitting back collecting checks. He could be doing nothing, but he chooses to go out of his way.Theres alot of work involved. The design ,the meetings, that all takes alot of time.At least someone cares not to just have a personal TF …pros only spot!

  • Joe Says:

Oh yea there are a few Skate plazas by NYC about to be built….in the next 2yrs….astoria,rockaway beach…..couple in manhattan, brooklyn.CT has a sick park designed by the same guys who did the DC plaza.

  • cr Says:

Rob sold out for sure! but he didnt sell out his soul. He sold out an image he created through skating to MTV etc. The thing is he didnt sell out his credibility because even though his mug is on some goofy ass carl’s jr cup and he’s got a show called fantasy factory (wtf?) he’s taking all that fame and money and is dropping it back into skating. Sheckler did the same thing but he lost his cred when he made a show about him that deals with 1. winning any contest with mtn dew in the title 2. trying to find the love of his life while in high school (why?) 3. crying when things get tuff. I dunno about everybody else, but thats not skating to me and I can’t relate or sympathize with his “problems.” So in the end 80% (maybe more) of skateboarding has forgotten that Sheckler is one gnarly ass skater, alls that we see now is some tool who pimps pimple cream and red bull.

  • nig Says:

    go rob

  • daniel Says:

We need one in tampa badly
is illegal to skate downtown.even on the sidewalks.
and its $8 to skate at SPoT

  • daniel Says:

    TAMPA!!

  • Greg Says:

dude i saw that, HAPPY STAR JUST SAVED MY LIFE!!!! That was awesome

  • gl Says:

Went there this morning and was kicked out by city employees working on the landscaping for the area. They told me the spot was only open between 12pm and 5pm or sun down. There was a fence surrounding the entire area which I had to jump in order to get in. Sick looking spot even though I didn’t get a chance to skate it. Will definitely be back but frustrating to get kicked out of a “safe spot.”

  • sk8r Says:

this is why Rob is my favorite skater. He givers back to the community. And his show Fantasy Factory is sick to

  • s8er101 Says:

i dont like payin 2 skate at da SPOT!

  • sk8er guy Says:

  • niemeyer Says:

Rob, come build a plaza in Phoenix!

  • jt Says:

    where is this located

  • poopinator Says:

everyone needs to stop saying “oh, build near my area, we need it”. just build a spot or if your area has so many skaters and really “needs it so bad”, just run the idea by a mayor or someone

  • Dennis Vidmar Says:

Need to get hold of Rob.. We skated years ago together here in Ohio… While your still in Cinncinnatti at any time, would like to know if you would like to try out the fly fishing up here in the Greater Cleveland area some time.. Get ahold of me.. Its been ages bud! Would be nice to see and hear again from you.
We used to skate long time ago together in and aournd the Cleveland area. Hope to hear back in regards to this email. Please have Rob get this message if you can. If not just email me and let me know where I could possibly get in touch with him via email. Thanks. D. Vidmar

  • dead beat Says:

    that fool is bunk

  • Max Says:

Dude the only reason sheckler gave away his car is too look good like hes a great guy. God damn i cant believe somone just stood up for sheckler.

  • Dan Says:

It’s like Rob is turning L.A. into the town from skate.

  • RBruhns Says:

I realize this is a fantastic thing to do for the community in L.A., but come on. There’s so many other cities in different states that would appreciate a skate plaze more than the capitol of skate spots (L.A.) Cave Creek, AZ has absolutely nothing. That would be a great place to start. I’m sure some little shredders in the middle of Nebraska could use one too. ;)

  • nicholas ger Says:

mellie da boi I have seen you. Your a wigger!

  • dj Says:

man shut up because skateboarding was born in va and ca

  • Anon Y Mous Says:

I’ve known a few brothers named Joe. One of which was a hardcore gangbanger who was down with us skaters. But who really cares!?! Skating knows no color, creed, or sex. Its about time you small minded people get that through your thick skulls.

Oh yeah, just before ya’all start bashing me, I’m a white guy who’s lived in the KC hood all his life. Its not Compton, but we have our share of crack dealers, bangers, hookers, and drive bys. Police sirens are the lullabys of my childhood.

And props to Rob for giving back. Skateboarding is a culture and it takes all of us to maintain it.

    Keep rollin’.

  • ThatOneGuy Says:

soooo putting your face on a soft drink cup and getting paid a ton of money doesnt fall under the category of selling out? sure its great that since he has a ton of money hes able to lay some cement for the kids but it doesnt necessarily justify the means of how he got the money.. which in this case, idolizing himself on a tv show and a fast food restaurant

just to throw this in here, if your a skateboarder there is nothing you "deserve" more than anyone else that skates. the only thing we should be getting out of it is the self-gratitude that we are involved in something that is so free and fun and apart from all the other bullshit that society likes to shove down our throats. if you think that if you kickflip a 20 you should be rich and smothered with free shit than your in it for the wrong reasons kids. get it straight.
