Nike Skateboarding welcomes Eric Koston to the team!
2009 is shaping up to be the busiest summer ever for Nike SB, but simply put, any time is a good time to add Eric Koston to your team.
Eric had this to say:
“Not only am I psyched to be a part of the great group of guys that makes up the Nike SB team, but I’m equally as excited to work with them creatively. I’m sure many people know that a lot of different Nike’s have been the inspiration for my shoe designs over the last 12 years, so I feel like a f—king kid in a candy store when it comes to this partnership between Nike and I.”

Did Koston really need more money than Lakai could pay him? This has been a horrible day for skateboarding. What about Koston's resentment towards Paul Rodriguez for doing the same thing? Lakai is a great company surrounded by great skaters, this is really too bad.

At what point in a pro's career is he allowed to earn money? After all he's done for the sport, you guys are going to hate on him because he's getting paid? Are you serious? Would it have mattered if Lakai coudl have paid him a 1 million a year, would you be bummed on him for being paid well?
Eric is worth whatever he's getting paid. We should all be very happy for him, cause it means skateboarding is getting the respect it deserves and that some young kid will one day be able to say thanks to all the pros who came before him that paved the way for him to earn a living.

I agree. People are treating this like the Sheckler incidents. Seriously guys, this is skateboarding. They're doing what they love, and it's pretty sick they get to make a living out of it. It's just a bonus to them.
Skateboarding has become a very popular sport, and everyone should acknowledge that, for once a good corporation that had once shunned away skating, is now a part of it. Same with Adidas and Puma. Like don't get me wrong, some of Kostons parts were more amazing back in the day when he was younger, like fuckin Menikmati when he was on ES, but as you get older, things go into transition, change happens, and new things are learned. It's just a part of life, and yeah we should be giving Koston a high 5, i think he deserves to be on a company like this, he's been around for skateboarding before even I was born, and some of you too. And skating is plainly for the fun and love of it, as if any other sport. Plus it is not something that should be taking seriously, like theres no top pros goin around on 'roids right?

I agree with a lot of what every one is saying about Koston's short sponsorship with Lakai but it was almost evident that he was going to go to Nike Sb. Nike has been swooping up these diverse skaters to be apart of their coporate juggernaut for so long now.

Koston on nike means more money for the Berrics…The Berrics does not run itself and I imagine that they dont generate enough ad revenue to keep the place going all the time. Plus Berra does not make nearly as much as Koston, that means Koston invests more money then Berra…F..k the haters, im sure they will all tune into the Berrics still.

I think it's good and bad. Yeah it does suck that Nike has taken riders away from skateboarding oriented companies but nike pays more and the skaters can support themselves better. If you were working mcdonalds for minimum wage and taco bell offered you 12 an hour, im sure you wouldnt just stay at mcdonalds. I think Koston fitted really well on Lakai and its a shame he has moved because there was something of a family feeling with him on lakai. No doubt I think he would have been AWESOME on Vans or even Emerica I just think the kind of quirky feel Nike adopt isn't really him. I picture more slappies and banks to tail with Nike and not huge fakie tres or backside noseblunts that Koston does. No doubt Nike are cool but Koston doesn't seem quite fitted with those guys. However if they re made the K3 that would be dope.

It takes a company that has money to be able to afford to give money back. Look at Vans. Owned by a corporate giant VF Corp, they make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ off skateboarding and never give anything back unless it's an Active contest or some Triple Crown deal. Wow so core but you fall for the ads saying that they've been around. Back in the 80's they canned their skate team to focus on BMX because there was no money in skating so go ahead and lace up your eras and pretend to be core. It's easy to hate on something you know nothing about. You fall for this skater owned crap to make you feel like more of a skater. It's like if you don't wear Lakai you're not a real skater. That's like FUBU or Echo saying you're not hip hop if you don't wear their stuff. All i'm saying is just do you. Do what works for you. Sure, there are many different opinions of what people consider "selling out" to be. Most are harmless, and the benefits and pitfalls are subject to argument. For example, a soda company-harmless. Even a car company, a video game, or a tv show. While these things may seem lame, and have nothing to do with our industry, it's all subject to personal opinion, and the bottom line is that these companies are not "taking" anything away from us, and at the same time, are willing to "give" for the association. They are not a competitor and don't intend to be a competitor in our industry. Sporting goods companies' intentions are solely to take.

P-Rod allegedly left Es to get from under the shadow of Koston. Now the shade is back maybe this will get my man ripping again. Its been a long time since I said that P-Rod killed it. Maybe the old man can teach the young buck some new tricks., or at least make the old ones look better. I know alot of skaters and 99.9 percent of you think this is a game. This is actually how some cats pay bills, and support their families. If this dude felt that he should get paid for his skill I commend him. You youngsters are living in a fantasy land where bills get paid by the bill fairy. If P-rod is the Micheal Jordan of skateboarding it's now his time to prove it. I think personally the SB team is too staked, but every one else is make some garbage product. So if you want some hot joints who is the sure shot. In closing I say stop jocking each other and do your own thing. Nike shoes are cool, but they need to step their game up as well cause 2008 had some ass colorways.

i got mad love for koston. ive been skating 10 years now, he's inspired me every single time ive seen him skate. he's made street skating what it is today. nothing wrong with nike, any company who are gunna put money, time and effort into skateboarding is cool with me. sounds like the same people who would have complained about skateboarding not being accepted are moaning bout koston joining nike whats up with that. anyways… koston = king, so anyone who dont like him go f*** yourselves.
