This year the TransWorld SKATEboarding awards were at a new venue and our biggest yet. The historic Avalon on Vine Street just off Hollywood Boulevard had the red carpet rolled out and everyone who is anyone was there. Hosted by Stereo Sound Agents Jason Lee and Chris Pastras, the venue was packed early on. The presenter pairs had the crowd rolling when dynamic duos like The Muska and Peter Smolik or Sal Barbier and Bill Weiss took the stage. By now you know who won what—but the highlight of the night was the retrospective video of Lance Mountain’s career for the TWS Legend Award. Lance gave his acceptance speech and spoke about how lucky he is to have been skating since the 70′s and see every generation of amazing skateboarders. The house ripped up in applause and stood on their feet!

Next up was the world premiere of Jon Holland and Jason Hernandez’ film Let’s Do This! Every part was stellar, the crowd loved it. Jason and Jon did another amazing job, what did you expect? No spoilers here, just buy one for yourself when they come out next month. You won’t regret it.

After the video, the afterparty was upstairs in the Spider Club. No one had to leave or even walk anywhere—the Avalon is good like that. Chris Cote spun the 80′s jams while DJ Peril took over on the hip hop. The dance floor was packed and the Sk8mafia was holding court. Everywhere you looked the two-handed SM house gang sign was being thrown. The after-after party took place in various locales depending who you ask. The Beauty Bar saw its fair share of skate rats as did the Holiday Inn on Highland. Rumor has it Peter Smolik was seen popping a bottle of champagne in the Holiday Inn jacuzzi at 10 a.m. this morning looking fresh-faced and well-rested. Check the slideshow and we’ll see ya next year!
