The World Traveling Tom Penny Mixtape

Blair Alley

After the pique in interest over our Church Of Tom Penny article from last week, we thought we’d re-post this Penny mixtape that was once posted on skateboarding.com years ago. As the story goes, Blair Alley got this mp4 from Andrew Reynolds on the Emerica Wild Ride in 2006, who got it from a kid in Australia earlier that year, who didn’t know where he got it. It’s the clip that Oliver Barton referenced in this Top 5 Youtube article as well. So here it is—chopped, screwed, and filmed off a TV at some parts, but it’s some of Tom’s most classic stuff.

    his style is magical

  • chillbongrip Says:

the stoneyist style gettin all stoney bologne up in those frontside flips

  • Tamadoa Says:

Did everyone note how Penny was skating everything in his path mini ramp, stairs, rails and VERT (At Chickens Pool), this is how you get good on a skateboard no one cares if you can 360 flip on flatground take it to transition and then talk about how wonderful you are on a skateboard.

  • a guy who skates Says:

  • Cold Turkey Says:

Penny is a legend and I have always enjoyed watching him. At one point he was one of my favorite skaters. His style is amazing as well but let me say something I know a lot of people are thinking but are afraid to say!!! The truth is that Penny does the same tricks over and over again!!! He is great at doing the same flip tricks over and over, but he was never that good at rails, manuals and ledges!!! What i mean is that Penny is not as versatile as other like Mark Johnson or Koston for example!!! Penny doesn't enter contests any more, because he knows that he is not going to place even in the top 15 nowadays!! Just watch the tape and you will see what I mean. No pun intended on Tom, but the truth must be said!!!

  • Max Says:

The legend behind Tom Penny is that when he showed up, everybody learned to flip their board the cool way. It's not the tricks he did, no matter how many times you see it, it's the style. The carelessness. How there's absolutely no stress in his skating. How he makes it look like anybody else can do it. Tom Penny is one of those rare skaters you'll ever find who can truly do whatever he wants on his skateboard - it's just a matter if he felt like it or not.

  • gerald monglie Says:

Never that good at rails?… I believe he kickflip back 5-0's and backtails some in here. Please go to earl warn and try to kickflip that four going that fast after bombing the hallway (spots done now). Shut up. You don't know jack. He doesn't enter contest because he doesn't give a damn about them. He is extremely versatile. Every seen him skate tranny? Ok…..Next time think before you post some BS. Kick Rocks!

  • dykie Says:

I know theres people like koston or mariano that are more versitile, but thats not what Penny is about, i saw him at the old Radlands comps i have never had that impact from seeing a skateboarder and i dont think i will again, if he did the teck tricks that was just a bonus.

  • fan Says:

    legendary

  • TRUSKATER Says:

turkeybitch - how are you gonna hate on tom penny? look at prod skate, dude bites tom pennys style. penny is what skateboarding is all about, not giving a fuck what tricks haters like you wanna see and just doin it cuz he loves it… KILL YO SELF!@!

  • 1979 Says:

He makes me want to skate.. now..

    Number 1 for ever

  • Cold Turkey Says:

The rail was more like a kick flip back scratch if you look closely, because he barely scratched the rail. Nowadays people will do the same trick switch, P.Rod will 360 flip crooked grind it and so much more! And yea he is great at tranny but again IT'S ALL THE SAME TRICK OVER AND OVER AGAIN DUDE!! Frontside flip, switch frontside flip, switch flip or a nollie 180 flip!!! And as far as contest … he use to enter contests, so why stop? … because he knows that he can't win anymore!!!

  • sooo high Says:

fuck you tamadoa all you do is praise vert skating and are a little faggot on the internet telling us how to skate.

  • roast beef Says:

alright cold turkey how are you gonna compare tom pennys footage from like ten- fifteen years ago to some of the newer tricks that are being done today. you must have recently just been introduced to skateboarding not too long ago. for one if you grew up skating in the 90's like myself you would understand how stu[pid and immature your comments are you sound like a fuckn jock. and lastly who the fuck are you to comment about what tom penny can and can't do suck it homey

  • junksen Says:

the 2nd song is epic, penny should win a legend award

  • gypsy butt surfer Says:

amazing response. that turkeybitch obviously started skating within the past few years. Penny's style - epic - nothing compares. Skateboarding has evolved into what it is today because of Tom Penny. That line he did at earl warn - so fast, so sick, anyone who skates now or then would kill to be able to skate a line like that.

  • Knowledge Says:

WOW!!! Just took me down memory lane, so many great memories tied to those clips. When they were released he was the guy, everyone was hanging onto his every move. "Did you hear what Penny did!!" that's how it was for like a solid 7 years. Definitely one of the all time greats to ever set foot onto a skateboard. Timeless gifts to skateboarding!!

  • thatdrop.com Says:

  • BGZ Says:

my first demo i had ever been to was with Tom Penny and Rick McCrank! i remember just seeing my first pro skater ever and it blew me away! this was back in 97…i remember clearly how hung over he was for the demo and it took him forever to do his switch frontside flip over the pyramid!

  • maik Says:
