If a tree falls in the middle of the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? How about if the TV cameras are rolling during the most amazing skating an X Games street contest has ever seen but it never airs, did it really happen? Well, for the millions of you at home who sat through rally-car races and motocross lameness awaiting the street-skating coverage, unfortunately you’ll never know. Because as an Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, and Chris Cole annihilation went down at the best designed and built X Games street course yet, only about a 30-second tidbit made it into your living rooms. In other words, this may be the best street contest you were never able to see. X Games, you guys had it in the bag-oh well.
As the extremeness continued through the August 3-6 weekend, Bob and Bucky killed the vert ramp while Danny Way owned the Big Air event. A 70-foot backflip rocket air over the mega jump, a twenty-foot Christ air on the vert ramp, and once again D-Way had a gold medal wrapped around his neck. Just thank God he didn’t celebrate with a Travis Pastrana dance.-Ben Kelly
