Adelmo Jr. Interview

Where are you from?

I'm from Aracaju Sergipe Nordeste Brasil.

When you're not at home in Brazil, where are you living in the U.S.?

When I'm not in Aracaju, I'm living in Costa Mesa, (California). A lot of Brazilians live around there–everyone is always together.

Who do you usually skate with?

With all my people from Aracaju, all my friends from Brasil, and all the friends who I met here in California.

Who or what got you into skating?

God and my family.

Who are your sponsors, and how long have you been sponsored?

My sponsors are Arcade, LRG, Venture, Autobahn Wheel Co., Lucky bearings, Banned skate shop, Universal hardware, and Narina. I've been on Narina in Brasil since 1995, and on Arcade and everyone else since 2001 when I came here.

Do you ever skate vert?

I tried when I was younger, but it's hard. Nowadays, I just mess around when I go to skate with my friends who skate vert.

Did you make a sponsor-me video or did you get noticed?

I arrived here only with a few tricks from Brasil on a tape, and my friend Tyler helped me a lot to make a sponsor-me video after we started filming.

What skate video got you hyped on skating?

All the skate videos from Brasil, Video Days, and all the classics.

Do you think you'll ever turn pro?

I hope so.

If you do, would you wear your own T-shirts?

If in your T-shirt there is a message that you really want to communicate, yes.

What role do contests and demos play in skateboarding?

Contests and demos are good environments to see a lot of friends who live far from each other.

How many boards can you ollie?

I'm not sure, but not really high.

Do you know who Jay Adams is?

Yes, I do. Is he Jason Adams, the skater?

Jay Adams is an old Dogtown skater from the 70s. Ring any bells?

I saw photos and videos of him before. I wrote Jason Adams. Sorry, it was Jay Adams.

When was the last time you did a Bert slide?

Some tricks' names are different in Brasil. Sorry, I don't know what a Bert slide is.

If you could be a pro skater from any decade, who would you be?

Renato Cupim and Charles Chaves are good examples to all the street skaters from Brasil.

Who was the first person to do a kickflip?

Mark Gonzales?

No, it was Rodney Mullen. Which ams are coming up in the ranks of skateboarding?

All the Arcade guys, and a lot of guys from Brasil who everyone is going to hear about soon.

What do you use for injury remedy?

Açaí, a Brasilian fruit that makes you better from a lot of things.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Musica Brasileira, reggae, and hip-hop.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

I'll try to be skating every day, studying, and united with my family–everything like it is nowadays. Thank you, Lord, for all.

Do you want to say thanks to anyone?

I'd like to thank God–thank you, Lord, for everything. My family, my dad, my mom, my brother and sister, my girlfriend, all my friends from Aracaju, all my friends from Brasil–thanks for the support, and everyone I met here in California who gave me a lot of support–Jason Rogers, Doug, Tyler, Joey, everyone on Arcade, LRG, Venture, Autobahn, Lucky bearings, Circa, Banned skate shop, Universal hardware, and Narina. Thank you for everything. Obrigado irmaos!
