Mathias Ringstrom Interview

Mathias RingstromStraight-out Euro. Crazy vert flipper.

With all the hype around the millenium, do you think something will happen on New Year’s Eve 1999? I don’t think that much is going to happen. I heard people who work for some big computer company packed up all this food, so they can survive for a year or something. That’s not going to happen. No huge riots. Some small things might happen. It might be messed up for a little bit.

Do you have something planned for that night? I want to spend it with my family because I don’t get to see them that often. We usually try to spend New Year’s together.

Who do you think are the most important skaters of the 90s? Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Rick McCrank, Arto Saari, Tom Penny, Rodney Mullen, Muska, Jamie Thomas, Danny Way, Colin McKay, Jeremy Wray, Kris Markovich, Daewon Song, Andrew Reynolds, Kareem Campbell, Pat Duffy, Eric Koston, Geoff Rowley, and Ed Templeton. Late nineties Brian Anderson and Arto.

Who’s Alan Gelfand? Oh, that was the ollie – ollie man.

How do you want to go down in skateboarding’s history? As a person who’s making up new tricks – innovating. And a nice, cool guy.

Who do you think will change skateboarding in the future? McCrank, Arto, Brian Anderson, Andrew Reynolds, and Danny Gonzalez. Then again, there’re so many good new skaters out there no one even knows about.
