Santa Fe Springs, CA (August 14, 2003) Vans welcomes Bucky Lasek, one of the most prolific vert skateboarders on the planet, to the fold. Known for his smooth, fluid style, Bucky has two X Games Golds to his credit and is the only American to win the prestigious Vans Slam City Jam in Vancouver. Lasek joins a team that includes Geoff Rowley, Tony Trujillo, John Cardiel, the incomparable Jim Greco, plus skate legends Steve Caballero and Tony Alva. Bucky has already put in some quality time at Vans headquarters to work with the design team on his signature shoe due out next summer.
“I’m real excited to join up with Vans because they’ve been around since skate’s beginnings,” says Lasek. “Plus, Vans shoes are flat out the best skate shoes anywhere.”
Bucky, a Baltimore native, broke into the pro ranks in the mid-Nineties and quickly rose to the top of the skate world placing in the top 10 at every 1998 contest and then winning the 1999 Summer X Games Vert comp. Bucky kicked off the new millennium with wins at the 2000 X-Trials in St.Petersburg, FL and the 2000 Tampa World Cup Pro Contest. Later that year, he repeated his Gold medal win at the Summer X Games and became the first skateboarder in the history of the contest to win gold in two consecutive years. Bucky has ripped off several big wins this year, including two in May at the Mountain Dew National Championships of Skateboarding in New Jersey and with Team USA at the X Games Global Championships in San Antonio and at the Boost Mobile Invitational in Vegas in July.
Bucky will be competing in the X Games Vert Competition this Friday, going for an unprecedented third Vert Gold.
In addition to Vans, Bucky rides for Pro-tec, Birdhouse, Billabong, Smith Optics, Independent, Clive, RDS, Jones Soda and T-Mobile.
