SEATTLE-From empty swimming pools in Orange County to thehard-rocking Hollywood clubs, skate punk exploded onto the underground scenein the late 1970s. On August 17-19, Experience Music Project (EMP), andSeattle Center Skate Park proudly present an in depth exploration of themuseum’s Skate Punk exhibit hosted by the skaters and bands that started themovement. This event is also sponsored by KNDD “The End”, Zumiez Skateboardsand Mountain Dew.

The weekend’s activities include live concerts, skating demonstrations,workshops and panel discussions. Participants in the Aug. 17-19 EMP SkatePunk event include legends from the advent of skate punk, including: TonyAlva, C.R. Stecyk III, Skip Engblom, Steve Olson, Duane Peters, Glen E.Friedman, Salba and Kevin Thatcher. Additionally, live performances by skatepunk bands U.S. Bombs, The 169ers, T.S.O.L. “In the 70s skateboarding and punk music-two rebellious youthcultures-collided,” explains Jim Fricke, senior curator, EMP. “Theaggressive sound of punk fit perfectly with the skateboarders radical natureand the grassroots, underground cultures of both meshed into a new musicalexpression.”
