Captured Souls Presents “Give Till It Hurts.

The third show in the series, “Works From The Vault, Captured Souls, in associtation with Rock Paper Scissors International Galleria, presents “Give Till It Hurts, a benefit art auction followed by live musical performances at Winstons in Ocean Beach. Professional skaters and artists painted on skateboard decks and shoes in order to raise funds for the Doogood Conservatory, an international non-profit organization whose mission is to provide free skateboards, surfboards and snowboarding packages to the under-privileged youth of America and beyond. For this show, a letter writing campaign will award three local kids free skateboard decks and a prize for each worthy letter. Applications may be picked up at the Ocean Beach Skate Shop and/or Rock Paper Scissors and will be due by Jan. 20th, 2007. Winners will be announced Jan. 29th at 4pm at the OB Skate Shop.

The art auction takes place January 27th, 2007, from 5-8pm at Rock Paper Scissors at 4976 Newport Ave. Prior to the event, OB Skate Shop will provide a live skateboarding demonstration in the parking lot due west from the galleria and some professional skateboarders are expected to make an appearance as the event coincides with the Action Sports Retail (ASR) Convention in San Diego the same weekend. Captured Souls’, Chuck Pegot, featured artist and coordinator stated the reason for the show: “I wanted to put together something with the potential to grow and put San Diego on the map as not just a place full of people who can surf, skate, and Snowboard, but a place with talented action sport enthusiast who care about art & music. More than 18 artists will be contributing including skateboarder, Matt Dove, a Volcom lifer, and Blair Rusin, ex-pro snowboarder, and Burton lifer. There will be live art by Jacqlyn Schroeder and dub music provided by DJ P$, also know as Preston Swirnoff.

Following the art show, Mike Watt, McRad, The Smiles Project, Leiana, Frontside Five will perform from 8pm-1am at Winston’s in OB. The show is 21+ and there will be limited space.

Sponsors for the event include: Harney Sushi, New York Giant Pizza, Hodad’s, Hint Water, Alaskan Brewing Co., Duffs, Powell Skateboards, and Autobahn Wheels.

The money raised will benefit the Doogood Conservatory that helps provide skateboards in needy communities.
