NY Times On Skate Shoes

Isn’t it great when mainstream media chimes in on skateboarding? They really know what they’re talking about. Sweet sweet poetry like this, for example…

“On a recent afternoon at 12A, a skateboarder in red suede Etnies launched himself from an inclined ramp. The skateboard revolved slowly under his feet and seemed to freeze for a moment, waiting for gravity to catch up. Then the skater’s back foot flicked the board, and again it spun. He landed with a satisfying thump and rode away.”

We use a lot of retarded lingo too, but “inclined ramp” and “satisfying thump” take the cake. Anyway, if you’re interested in this sort of awkward awesomeness, click here for today’s New York Times story on skate shoes.

SOME mainstream coverage is not a bad thing, I think. Of course the NY Times is not going to print skate jargon — their readers won’t know what it means. Give ‘em a break!
Man, did you see the kids’ shoes? They really need some new kicks. Hard to believe they still skate in those things!
