Original Vans Skatepark Gets A Facelift

The Vans Skatepark in Orange, California is undergoing a facelift. The renovation will be completed in time for a private party for the media and industry folk on Wednesday, August 23. The public's first peek will take place the following day on August 24.

The 46,000-square-feet facility was Vans' first skatepark to infiltrate the mall scene. Since its inception, Vans has completed and opened five skateparks across the country. With each skatepark's terrain one-upping the next, Vans management felt it was time for the flagship park to get a newly designed street course.

The new indoor course was designed to flow from one area of the park to the next and will feature rails, stairs, and other obstacles making it more skater friendly. Builders Dave Duncan and Rick Carje collected feedback from several pros before redesigning the park they helped launch back in November 1998.
