Vancouver, BC – This city has been the breeding ground and destination spot for some of today’s leading skateboarders. Where outdoor skate parks are almost as common as playgrounds you’d think Vancouver fulfilled every skateboarders needs. It’s undeniable however that there has been an important element missing.
Since the Richmond Skate Ranch closed its doors in 1993, the city of Vancouver has not seen a true indoor skate facility until now. Kevin Harris, Vancouver’s first professional skateboarder and founder of the Skate Ranch and Ultimate Skateboards has partnered with Centre Skateboard Distribution and RDS and on December 6, 2003 they will open the doors to what will be every skateboarders dream, the RDS Indoor Skate Park.
Located in the Riverport Sports and Entertainment Complex, the RDS skate park covers 20,000 square feet of skateable terrain, featuring a 12,000 square foot street course, 8,000 square feet of ramps, a kids mini area, the worlds largest indoor vert ramp and a full service RDS pro shop. The park will be open 7 days a week, 12-10pm on weekdays and 9-10pm on the weekend. For the low price of $50(CDN) a month you can skate it all you want.
The facility will serve as a means for skateboarders to continue the sport all season long despite the rain that falls over the city for several months out of the year. Skateboarding can now be enjoyed in a safe controlled environment. Parents can feel good about dropping their kids off to an indoor professionally designed and operated full-service skateboard park.
“I’m proud to be a part of this top notch facility since skateboarding has been so good to me.” Rob Sluggo Boyce RDS pro skateboarder
The RDS skate park will no doubt be a landmark for Vancouver’s popular and ever growing skateboard scene. The city, which has set the foundation for the dreams of today’s local skateboarders, is about to get a whole lot stronger.
