SOLO MOBILE SLAM CITY JAM BECOMES A PRO INVITATIONAL

Solo Mobile Slam City Jam, today announced that the Men’s Street Championships will become an Invitational for 2005. The Solo Mobile Slam City Jam takes place in downtown Vancouver, August 26 — 28, 2005 at BC Place Stadium.

“We felt the need to ensure the highest caliber of skating, both for the Pros who are out there pushing their limits, and for the fans watching, said Marnie DiGiandomenico, Slam’s Director of Events.  “Now we can eliminate the long Friday qualifying day and focus on some great skating.  Friday will be ‘Fan Appreciation Day’, featuring autograph signings by the Pros, clinics in the public skatepark, and music on the Soundstage, combined with exciting Street and Vert skating.

With the new Invitational format, 96 of the world’s top professional street skaters will be invited to compete in the Men’s Street Championships at Slam.  The Invite list will be based on World Cup rankings and media/fan favorites.  Rounding out the list to an even 100 skaters will be 4 incredible Amateurs:  the 3 top place finishers in the DC Nationals contest, and the 1st place finisher in the Es Game of Skate’s Canadian contest tour. The Invite list will be announced and invitations sent out in mid-June. The Girls’ Contests and the Men’s Vert will remain open to any professional skaters wishing to enter.

For three action-packed days, the world’s top skateboarders will descend on Vancouver for this World Cup Skateboarding points event. Over 150 pros will compete for a prize purse of more than US$100,000 at North America’s largest and longest-running skateboard contest.

The Solo Mobile Slam City Jam is presented by Vans, in addition to the generous support of numerous skateboard companies and magazines.
