STOKED MENTORING AND DC HOST SKATEBOARD EVENTFOR LOS ANGELES’ RAMPART DISTRICT YOUTH

Leading Skateboarding Footwear and Apparel Brand and Nationwide Youth Mentoring Program Partner To Introduce Young People To Mentorship Opportunities Through Skateboarding

Stoked Mentoring, the non profit action sports organization that brings together at-risk youth to learn about life mentoring through action sports, and DC announced today that it will holding a Skate Jam in the Rampart District in Los Angeles on August 19. The event, held at the Lake Street Community Center Skatepark will let area kids showcase their skills for the community, hold a best trick contest, and expose inner-city Los Angeles youth to the mentoring opportunities Stoked provides through its action sports programs.

This summer marked the first successful year of Stoked Mentoring’s Skate Mentor program in Los Angeles, which pairs successful adults with at-risk young people for mentoring relationships that combine the challenge of skateboarding with real-life learning opportunities. This year’s Los Angeles Skate Mentor program was made possible primarily through the support of DC, whose generous sponsorship helped fund the nationwide program.

The event will also feature a “best trick” contest sponsored by Ignition.tv, the leading mobile media provider focused on providing action sports content forwireless phones. The best trick contest will be judged by skateboard industry team managers.

In addition to DC and Ignition’s support, other leading companies in and outside of action sports have joined together to help make the Skate Jam a success. Brands such as Zoo York, Glaceau Vitamin Water, Active Mail Order and Nine Star have all volunteered to support the event through product donations for attendees.

“Two years ago, there didn’t even exist a mentoring organization that covered surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding under one umbrella. Now, through the help of our sponsors, we have programs that cover all three activities on both coasts!” said Steve Larosiliere, executive director for Stoked Mentoring. “Through the help of our sponsors, Stoked Mentoring will continue its goal ofmentoring at-risk young through action sports for another year.”
