The Spitfire Tour, which features musicians, actors & activists speaking out on global affairs, will be making a special appearance at this year’s Woodstock (July, 23-25, 1999) on one of the festival’s two main stages, from 11am – 1pm. Spitfire is a free speech forum that aims to educate, enlighten & entertain, while instigating action.
The Spitfire Tour’s four date college campus ‘pilot tour’ in the Fall of 1998 was received with tremendous enthusiasm. Performing in packed venues with a capacity of 2,000 – 10,000 students per city, Spitfire proved to be a successful idea that offered up an innovative mix of education, activism & entertainment. Spitfire will embark on it’s first 20 city national college tour this Fall, 1999, presented by Colleges.com.
Spitfire is proud to work with speakers who truly ‘walk the walk’. Speakers who appeared in 1998’s pilot tour and/or who have confirmed participation for 1999, include: actor Woody Harrelson, Musician Perry Farrell, Indigo Girl Amy Ray, Politically Incorrect’s Bill Maher, Everclear’s Art Alexakis, Greatfull Dead musician Mickey Hart, Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic, politician & Dead Kennedy’s singer Jello Biafra, designer Kenneth Cole, Spearhead’s Michael Franti, X’s Exene Cervenka, Bad Religion’s Greg Graffin, MTV VJ Kennedy, cancer patient & medical marijuana activist Todd McCormick, Zapatista activist Cecilia Rodriguez, and world’s longest tree sitter Julia Butterfly (via simulcast).
