Vans shoes plans to open its second and world’s largest skatepark in Bakersfield, California within the next sixty days.

This 59,000 square foot facility, featuring 51,000 square feet of indoor space and 8,000 square feet of outdoor space, features an expanded street skating area. This new skate park in California’s Central Valley is modeled after the existing 46,000 square foot Vans Skate Park at The Block in Orange, California. “we’re excited to open our second skate park in Bakersfield as it is important that Vans not only opens new parks in their own backyard, but in locations throughout the United States.” says Neal Lyons, Vans’ president of retail.

The new Vans Skate Park will contain 30,000 square feet of indoor street course area, featuring combinations of banks, ledges, transitions, handrails, and curbs. Other features include an intermediate and professional in-ground cement pool, an outdoor street course area, a 48′ long mini-ramp, a 48′ wide halfpipe, and a pee-wee street course and bowl for beginners. In addition, the on-site Vans retail store will showcase Vans’ latest lines of hardcore shoes, apparel, and hardgoods for the skateboarding enthusiast. The Vans Skate park is being designed and constructed by Rick Carje, Barrett ‘Chicken’ Deck, Rob-O Ramps L.L.C., and Brookstone Construction.

“The City of Bakersfield is both pleased and excited that Vans would choose this location for their second facility,” says Randy Rowles, Bakersfield City Councilmember. “Both young and old are waiting to pad-up and skate the new facility.”

The Vans Skate Park in Bakersfield is one of six new skate parks currently slated to open. Future skate parks include facilities in the San Francisco Bay area (Milpitas) and in Ontario, California, which are scheduled to open within the next six months, with skate parks also planned for Orlando, Florida, Prince William, Virginia, and Toronto, Canada.
