Vans announced at the close of the fourth fiscal quarter and fiscal year ending May 31, 2000 their financial results. Net sales for the quarter were up nearly 36 percent to 65.8-million dollars. Net sales for the fiscal year increased to just over 33 percent to 273.5-million dollars. Vans, Inc. President and CEO Gary Schoenfeld attributes this increase in sales to some of the initiatives Vans, Inc. has undertaken in the past year including the initial opening of the five Vans Skateparks across the country, the license agreement signed with Sony PlayStation, the acquisition of the High Cascade Snowboard Camp located at Mt. Hood, Oregon, the e-commerce launch on vans.com, and the added big-name sponsors like Motorola, Ford, and Gillette to the Vans Triple Crown Series events.
Total U.S. sales, including sales through Vans own retail stores, increased by nearly 54 percent. And total international sales, inclusive of the five European retail stores, were up 4.7 percent.
