Style Sessions Art Exhibit at Milk Gallery on May 26th; Charitable Silent Auction benefiting Boarding for Breast Cancer

On May 26th, Style Sessions begins a nine-day art exhibit (May 26 — June 3) at Milk Gallery in New York City with an opening reception and silent auction to benefit breast cancer awareness. A portion of proceeds from art sales go to Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC), a youth-focused educational outreach foundation with a mission to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and the value of a healthy lifestyle.

Style Sessions partnered with renowned artist, William Quigley, to organize and produce a series of 75 original art works on skateboard decks. The exhibit includes contributions from 50 Cent, Tony Alva, Hope Atherton, Peter Beard, Art Brewer, Marc Chiat, Andy Dick, Hazel Dooney, Pete Francis, Carla Gannis, Michael Halsband, Attila Richard Lukacs, Michael Manning, Lance Mountain, Steve Olson, Shaquille O’Neal, Stacy Peralta, Shelter Serra, Peter Tunney, and Robin Williams. Skateboards were generously donated by Skull Skates and Gravity.

On June 3rd, TriStar Pictures presents the major motion picture Lords of Dogtown in theaters across North America. In honor of the original Z Boys surf-skate team, The Lords of Dogtown Art Tour, consisting of more than 60 pieces of artwork, joins the Style Sessions Exhibit from May 31 — June 3 at Milk Gallery. Select pieces from the tour are being auctioned to raise additional money for Boarding for Breast Cancer. On June 1st, Style Sessions hosts the Lords of Dogtown VIP reception including cast and celebrities from the motion picture, and some of the legendary Z boys.

Wicked Wahine Invades Mexico!

Wicked Whine #3, Ode to the Baja bowl, June 25 & 26 to be held at the Cuatro Casas Int.’L Surf Hostel in Punta San Telmo, Mexico (2 hours south of Ensenada). — The third Wicked Wahine event is an open-invitational for female, Pro/Am skaters/surfers to participate in a two day, multi-talent, jam-style contest. It will be held without the confines of a traditional skateboard/surf contest while focusing on the overall, combined talents of the women involved as they show their athletic diversity. Skateboarding will be the focus on Saturday, June 25th as women of all ages and skill levels will be skating the custom poured concrete bowl which is located just a stones throw from the beautiful beaches and amazing surf. The gorgeous scenery and fun-filled atmosphere will be fueled with high energy music, delicious food, live entertainment and powerful skateboarding. More than 20 of the top female skateboarders will be skating for bragging rights and more as onlookers sip cool drinks and relax in the sun while witnessing some awesome skateboarding. Mike Crum on Power Footwear

Skateboarder Mike Crum’s lucky year must be 2004. The world’s #3-ranked vert skateboarder has blazed to recent top tier international finishes in skateboard competitions in Asia, Europe and North America. Crum also has a best-selling pro model skateboard, and he spent this past sprg inspiring crowds as part of the acclaimed Got Milk? Gravity Tour.

The 30 year-old renaissance rider joins Power as a team standout and design-meister for the brands’ upcoming Mike Crum signature shoe. Power Footwear focuses on building performance-oriented skate shoes at accessible prices, and the Crum shoe will be engineered to include the most advanced performance skate features ever made available in such a shoe. Power projects the Crum shoe will be shipped to retailers worldwide by late 2005.

Streetcontest

Other than that the course looks amazing and is designed by Dutch skateboarders (incl. Wieger van Wageningen), Rotterdam is aiming on a new competitionsystem and a new judging system. 4 or 5 riders will ride at the same time and will be judged by both the audience through textmessaging, the riders through a special gameshow buttonsystem wherethey can vote for the favourite rider and by 5 regular judges. The streetcontest will be held in the indoor ‘Ahoy Sportpaleis’. The course will be build by IOU-ramps from Germany.

Vert contest

The vert contest will be held in the center of the city. Vertical Ramps from Switzerland is bringing everybody’s favourite double vert ramp. You may all remember this ramp from the battle between Bob Bornquist and Rune Glifberg at the last Lausanne Contest. Holland’s highest flying vertskater Bob Joosten is part of the organisation and will be responsible for inviting most of the riders.

Art-, Photo- and Movie expositions

Rotterdam is proud to host many expositions by many famous artists. For instance graphic designers Evan Hecox (Chocoalate) and Andy Mueller (Girl), painters Mark Gonzales, Ed Templeton and Lance Mountain and a group photographers from euro-magazine Kingpin bundle their powers to create one of the biggest skateboardphotography expositions ever. Burning Across America amatuerskateboarding contest.

After years of requests and work the city of Palm Bay and Graffiti Skate Zone has been selected for one of the east coasts biggest amatuer skateboarding qualifier contests events. The Burning Across America tour is a mostly Florida based skateboarding event where several skate park stops are selected each year for participants to skate in individual contests to qualify for a finals event to be held in September in Clearwater Florida. Each skatepark stop will host a skateboard contest with different age appropriate divisions for all ages. Each skater will then try to qualify in the top 10 of their respective age group to be able to advance to thefinals skateboarding contest which will take place inClearwater Florida in September. Along with qualifingthe top 3 skaters will also recieve prizes and trophies in each age division. Once participants have qualified they can then participate in the finals contest event in Clearwater to try to win a free trip to the biggest and best skateboard training facility in the world, Woodward skate camp located in Woodward PA. Along with cash and prizes up to $5000.00. The local qualifing event at Graffiti will be held on May 28 and will most likely be one of our areas biggest skate events this year.
