The Sixth Annual TransWorld SKATEboarding Awards took place May 26, 2004 at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre in Hollywood, California. The place was packed as attendees walked a red carpet to get in, passing by numerous TV cameras and news crews. Once inside, there were several bars to choose from—the best being the upstairs, open-air patio with a view of the sun setting over Hollywood Boulevard. The awards show started right behind schedule, giving everyone way too much time to suckle the booze, hence the hilarious acceptance speeches. Check the winners below.
Along with World Cup Skateboarding, DC Shoes also sponsored the night and provided the music, DJ Nu-Mark (from Jurassic 5) and DJ Style handled the afterparty. DJ RS2 provided pre-party music and spun during the show. Red Bull provided free Red Bull and vodka drinks all night. After the rowdy ceremony closed, the new TWS video, Subtleties, premiered. Jon Holland’s videos are always good, but this one went above and beyond all expectations. Pat Duffy had the amazing first part. Then Brandon Biebel shared his part with some shocking and unprecedented Brian Wenning footage. There were a couple of nice montages, like always. Kyle Leeper showed his knack for innovation with his laid-back style. Stefan Janoski closed out the vid with a fantastic part set to a classic Modest Mouse ditty. Keep in mind that this video was made in less than a year’s time—truly impressive.
After the video, some people stayed in the venue to hang out more. Others took their revelry to the streets of Hollywood. Star Shoes, Beauty Bar, and Burgundy Room saw their share of pros, ladies, and industry types throughout the night. There were some funny conversations that night and a few minor scuffles, none of which will be elaborated on here. Marc Johnson’s award was stolen, so if anyone has information regarding its whereabouts, drop us a line. Suffice it to say, it was an unforgettable night—for those who can remember it.
