OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
Overview: The arcade hit OutRun celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, so Sega decided to add some modern flavor to the original. Gameplay: Things are basically the same: drive wicked fast and don’t crash. And don’t expect a driving simulator like Grand Turismo, but rather a modernized version of the original arcade player. OutRun 2006 essentially compiles the best of the OutRun 2 and OutRun SP games, while adding PSP Internet and Wi-Fi play, a new mission mode, plus a bunch of new officially licensed Ferraris. (No fakes here.)
Graphics: The “before and after” analogy works perfectly-with OutRun 2006 being the “after,” stupid.
Sound: Twenty-one songs, including remixes of the Richard Jacques classics, plus two new tracks from Hiroshi Miyauchi (the dude behind the original’s music).
Entertainment: The new “slipstreaming” and “OutRun Miles” features, which allow you to draft behind opponents and buy new stuff in showrooms, are welcome additions. OutRun 2006 ain’t the most groundbreaking game in the world (it was created in 1986, after all), but it’ll definitely stoke-out the graying gamers out there.-Gamey Thomas
