To say I was jetlagged in Dallas would be quite an understatement. The day after Phoenix, I jumped on a plane to L.A. for the TransWorld SKATEboarding Awards, which was the day after I landed, and the headached-puffy-eyed day after that, I barely made my flight into Texas. See what I mean? So, after arriving in Dallas, and a long—and unsuccessful—mission to find some authentic Texas BBQ, we made are way north into Plano, TX where I said nighty-night as soon as I walked into the hotel.
After a long night of needed rest, I felt refreshed, that is, until I walked outside into the seemingly-like-one-million-percent humidity. I still can’t believe the Element team, and the rest of the am contest crew made it through the day. But they did, and much better than I.
More and more ams keep flocking to the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Am Contest Series presented by Boost Mobile. There’s only one thing to say about this time around: kickflip front boards, Ryan Strader. Yeah, buddy, we’ll see you in Cali. Duing the demo Muska was hyping the crowd the entire day, signing autographs, getting on the mic, and pulling a huge ollie off the bank and over the railing to flat. It was seriously the craziest trick to go down so far on the Couch Tour. Tony Tave and Nyjah brought the consistency, while Mike V charged the course always ready to put on a good show for the crowd. Tosh Townend, Levi Brown, and Darrell Stanton have some serious pop in their skating, and their jump kicks are even better (check out the slideshow to see what I mean).
After the contest, demo, and Mike Vs band Revolution Monther and The Bled finished their sets, Zumiez took us all out to dinner/force feeding of fine Italian cuisine. We laughed, we didn’t cry, but we all had a killer time enjoying the fruits of our labors, or something like that. By the end of the night (which ended around 4 or 5 in the morning) Element, Zumiez, and I had become one big happy family. Next stop, Philly. Here we come.
