Neal Mims Interview

Neal MimsHungry mother. Handrail killer.

With all the hype around the millennium, do you think something will happen on New Year’s Eve 1999? I don’t think it’s going to be too chaotic. I think it’s just going to be another year. I think the partying might be a little more drastic. People are going to go more crazy than usual just because everyone thinks something is going to happen. So I think it’s just going to turn into another year and just be another New Year’s party for everyone.

What do you have planned for that night? I’d like to go somewhere. I was thinking about going to Canada.

Who are the most important skaters of the 90s? Danny Way, Colin McKay, Pat Duffy – he’s the one who started all the handrail craze and nobody even knows that. Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Eric Koston, Mark Gonzales, Jamie Thomas, Rodney Mullen, Daewon Song, Rick McCrank, Arto Saari, Geoff Rowley, Kenny Anderson, Andrew Reynolds, Steve Berra, Heath Kirchart, and Tom Penny.

Who is Alan Gelfand? First ollie.

How do you want to go down in skateboarding’s history? I just want to be remembered as having a positive outlook on skateboarding and trying to innovate it as much as I can. Just help kids anyway I can and be a good role model. I want respect from everybody and just try to do things the right way.

Who do you think will change skateboarding in the future? Most of the kids nowadays. Like Ryan Scheckler, Arto Saari, Robby McKinley, Jeff Lenoce, Brandon Beeble – that kid rips, he skates for Expedition.
