Boost Mobile RockCorps — A National Youth Volunteerism Movement Comes to Brooklyn to Cleanup Popular Skateboard Park

WHO: RockCorps, an organization harnessing the power of music to inspire volunteerism
Boost Mobile, a wireless telecommunications brand dedicated to boosting the lives of today’s youth
Partnership for Parks, an organization focused on increasing community support for and involvement in parks throughout New York City.

WHAT: Combining the power of music, community and volunteerism, Boost Mobile RockCorps will offer entrance to exclusive BMRC concert events for which the only way in is to earn tickets by contributing four hours of volunteer service.

On September 23, the 2006 BMRC program will culminate at Brooklyn Bridge Banks, one of New York’s’ most popular “skateboard-friendly parks. Volunteers will help make the park safer for skaters and give it a boost by removing debris, painting murals and landscaping.

Since April the program has stopped in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and New York. By the end of the 2006 tour, which concludes with a signature televised concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on September 23, BMRC volunteers will have transformed more than 125 project sites in eight cities across the country.
