Billabong All Girl Skate Jam

The third year of the All Girl Skate Jam will be graced with three separate events across the country, from the East Coast to Hawai’i. The first took place at the new Skaters Island skatepark in Rhode Island in May, and drew women of all abilities and ages to compete in street and vert categories, crowning Elissa Steamer street champ, and Cara-Beth Burnside vert and mini-ramp ruler.

The point of the All Girl Skate Jam, says organizer Patty Segovia, is to get women together to skate and have a good time. Its motto, “All Ages, All Abilities, All Girls,” has characterized the atmosphere at each event over the past two years, and they continue to attract participants ranging in age from five to 40.

The next two All Girl Skate Jams, both sponsored by Vans, will take place on September 12 at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, California, and on November 14 in Haleiwa, Hawai’i in conjunction with the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing contest. The September contest will be held during the Fall ASR Trade Expo in San Diego and will include a pool contest. The future of the All Girl Skate Jam, Segovia hopes, will include international events¿most likely in South America and Australia.

In addition to encouraging women to skate, the All Girl Skate Jam raises money for various charities. For more information, check out the All Girl Skate Jam Web site at: Or call Patty Segovia at: (714) 525-0925.
