Lake Forest, CA. (01 April, 2004) – On April 10, 2004, etnies Footwear, Stereo Skateboard’s Jason Lee and Chris Pastras, WE Clothing and Niva Films present America Motel, a unique art installation located near downtown Los Angeles.
A sensory exploration captured through the eyes of three women traveling across the United States, America Motel features a super-8 film by Beth Riesgraf, the photography of Alex Prager and the written works of Mercedes Helnwein. Beth, Alex and Mercedes recorded their experiences in different mediums over a two-week period of time. Their “findings”, which are both thought-provoking and humorous, will be imaginatively presented throughout, appropriately, the America Motel during a one-night-only exhibition.
The America Motel, which is very similar to the lodgings the artists frequented during the cross-country road trip, consists of seven ground floor rooms that will serve as gallery spaces for Alex’s photographs. Each of the rooms will also feature monitors running Beth’s film, while a short book written by Mercedes about the trip, Devil Got Religion, will also be available. The roughly 4,000 square foot parking lot of the America Motel will remain carless for the evening to accommodate Astroturf, which will cover the entire lot for two bars and Krispy Kreme Donuts stands.
