NFA Streetbuster skate jam, August 11th

Vancouver, BC – Back in 1992, Mark Steacy, founder of NFA Board Gear, had an idea; ‘If you build it, they will come’ or in Mark’s case, ‘If you make it fun, supply bands, supply ramps, drinks and food, they will come’. We are talking about the NFA Yaletown Blockbuster, an event held for local skateboarders. The event, which was held for 5 consecutive years, was put on the back burner for a future date.

It is now 2001 and NFA is pleased to announce the return of this infamous event once called the NFA Blockbuster, which has had a bit of a facelift, or in this case a “name-lift”. The event, now named the NFA Streetbuster will stay true to its roots. “We’re closing off an entire city block for the day and setting up various skate ramps – including flatbars, a quarter-pipe, a mini-ramp, ledges, flat banks, and grind boxes. We have bands scheduled, a DJ and tons of prizes to give away” states Aaron Macdonald, Marketing Manager for NFA.

“While putting this whole event together, I was reminded of my days growing up skating with my friends, throwing a couple of ramps out in the middle of the road, and having our ghetto blaster blaring” says Aaron. “This event will be on a much larger scale than just a couple of ramps and a ghetto blaster”.

The one-day NFA Streetbuster has been set for Saturday, August 11th, 2001 starting at 11:00am and ending at 7:00pm. The event will take place on the entire 1100 block of William Street in Vancouver’s East-end.

The NFA Streetbuster will be an all-day non-judged event and is open to all skaters, as well as spectators. Each skater will be required to wear protective equipment at all times. Admission to the event, for both skaters and spectators, will be $2.00. Music will be provided by Vancouver based Def Poets Society, Ocean 3, DJ KiloCee to name a few.

NFA Streetbuster ¿ presented by West 49, NFA and 104.9XFM and sponsored by Etnies, SBC Skateboard Canada Magazine, Premium Wood, The Cambie, Lucky Bearings, Iris Snow Optical, Thunder Trucks, Spitfire Wheels, New Line Skateparks, Whistler Water, Rainbow Press and Shaw Cable’s ‘Urban Rush’.
