SKATER NYJAH HUSTON, VANS VOTED NO. 1 IN FIRST-EVER PETA2 LIBBY AWARDS
Animal-Friendly Skateboarder, Skate-Shoe Maker Coast to Victory
Thanks to peta2, the world’s largest youth animal rights organization, skateboarding enthusiasts recently had the opportunity to vote for their favorite skateboarder and favorite skate-shoe company in peta2’s first-ever “Libby Awards (Libby is for “liberation) for animal-friendly people and things. The following are the 2006 winners in each category:
Best Vegetarian Athlete: Nyjah Huston
Nyjah placed eighth overall in the tough men’s street-skateboarding competition at the X Games last year and has racked up wins at the Am Getting Paid in Montréal and the Tampa Am. Nyjah’s amazing skills on his board are matched only by his commitment to a healthful and humane vegan diet, making him an odds-on favorite with peta2’s more than 190,000 Street Teamers. Runners-up include Taj Mihelich, Nicolas Muller, Anastasia Ashley, and American Misfits—Ted, Nate, and Laban.
Best Vegan Skate Shoe: Vans’ Rowley XL III
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just someone who lives to skate, chances are you’ve got a pair of Vans between your feet and your board. Because it’s leather-free, the Rowley XL III didn’t cost a cow an arm and a leg. Emerica’s Templeton 4, Macbeth’s Bonham, Lakai’s Relay, and Etnies’ Kingpin were runners-up.
