Vision Street Wear Taps Iconic Skate Artist Bernie Tostenson For Fall Footwear Collaboration
Two pioneers in the skate industry come together this season for a reunion tour – Vision Street Wear and legendary artist Bernie Tostenson – on four styles in Vision’s Fall 2007 collection. Tostenson is the artist best known for designing the iconic 1982 Christian Hosoi “Rising Sun skateboard, recognized by TransWorld Skateboarding magazine as one of “The Fifteen Most Coveted Skateboards Ever. Tostenson’s original designs will grace four canvas slip-on styles for men and women set to hit shelves in August 2007.
Tostenson tapped into decidedly SoCal influences including Mexicali folk art surrounding Dia De Los Muertos (Mexican Day of the Dead) on two classic slip ons, the Calivera for men and the Cali Skull for women. Featuring vibrant primary colors and intricate pen-and-ink skull imagery, both pairs are asymmetrical; the art on the left shoe differs slightly from that of the right shoe.
Another men’s slip on, titled El Rumble, features a detailed black-and-white collage of people enmeshed in a mosh pit. For women, Tostenson created the Peace slip on, a swirling medley of psychedelic ’60s art complete with peace signs, stars and flowers in consummate Joplin fashion.
