SAN DIEGO, CA — Women's Skateboarding Alliance (WSA), the global management and consulting agency dedicated to authentically representing the industry voice of women's skateboarding will be producing the inaugural Women's Skateboard Street competition at
X Games Oslo, February 24-26. This marks the first time in X Games history that winter and summer games athletes will compete at the same international event.
"We are excited to build on our long time relationship with ESPN by producing Women’s Skateboarding Street at the first ever X Games Oslo in conjunction with our event partner
CA Productions. With more girls skateboarding globally than ever before, the timing couldn't be better for a new European X Games stop," says Mimi Knoop, Founder and President of WSA.
The Women's Skateboard Street finals competition will be held Thursday, Feb 25 at
7 p.m. (CET), in downtown Oslo, Norway at the Skur 13 warehouse located in Filipstad Harbor near Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen. The competition will feature invite only athletes:
Alana Smith, Alexis Sablone, Lacey Baker, Leticia Bufoni, Pamela Rosa, and Vanessa Torres. The women's finals will be webcasted on Feb 25th at 1pm ET on ESPN3. In addition, the women's competition will be televised globally on ESPN International networks and distributed to other international media outlets and television broadcasters via ESPN's media distribution business. Additional highlights can be seen on ESPN2 and ABC (check local listings).
The event signifies the first international skateboarding competition in Norway.
California RampWorks, a leader in premiere Actions Sports ramp and set production, has designed the first-ever X Games skateboard course in Norway. The permanent structure hopes to draw European locals and skaters globally to Oslo. California RampWorks has produced some of the world's most prestigious contest courses including X Games, Dew Tour, and the MegaRamp to name a few.
Only six of the top female street skateboarders will compete on the one of a kind street course.
"I’m hyped to be one of the invited skaters to compete at X Games Oslo. The support from The Alliance and commitment of WSA to women's skateboarding means a lot to me and to the future of the sport. I love getting the opportunity to meet new people and to share my passion with the world," says athlete Alana Smith, 15.
Smith holds the Guinness World Record for the "Youngest Athlete to Medal at X Games" in 2013 in Women's Park at the X Games Barcelona, Spain.
Following a breakout year in 2015 by co-producing the first ever Women's division at the Street League Skateboarding Nike SB Super Crown World Championship in Chicago, IL; WSA projects an even busier 2016.
