Here are photos from the AGSJ in Hawaii. The title sponsor was Royal Order and the presentingsponsor was Cholos Restaurant. The loction of the event took place in Oahu, Hawai’i in a private pool.
I just returned from my first trip to Hawai’i where I skated in another one of Patty Segovia’s All Girl Skate Jams. This event was different from other skate events I’ve been to in the past—no rickety vert ramps or movable street courses, no judges, and no pressure. It was just all about good times and skating with all the girls in a fun bowl in Hawai’i. The bowl we skated in was built by Dreamland in the backyard of skater and O’ahu resident Steve Ellis. Steve was nice enough (and brave enough) to invite all of us to his home and let us skate his pool.
The turnout was good for the event—Jay Adams, Tony Alva, and Peggi Oki were some of the legends there supporting, and a bunch of other skaters showed up as well. Elissa Steamer, Cnan Omer, Cara-Beth Burnside, Heidi Fitzgerald, Kim Petersen, and Jessica Starkweather among others, were all there taking runs in the bowl. “It was just a fun event because it wasn’t a contest and all the girls were skating well, said Cara-Beth Burnside. The event ended with a light rain shower right before dark, signaling that the day was coming to an end. All in all, it was a great event and an awesome reason to go over to Hawai’i. Thanks to Patty Segovia for putting it all together and to Steve Ellis for letting all of us loose in his backyard! —Mimi Knoop
