Skateboarding’s Academy Awards

It’s the Fifth Annual TransWorld SKATEboarding Awards.

The skateboarding awards show is more like the antithesis of the Academy Awards, and the constant heckling by the crowd and a giant fire-breathing chick are a testament to that.

Through the cloud of chaos winners accepted their awards. I’m not sure why Julio de la Cruz accepted the Best Team award for Flip. After Julio left the stage, Felix Arguelles said, “Someone arrest that man. He has nothing to do with Flip.” Flip, did you guys ever receive the urethane globe? And who the hell went to the podium for Coliseum skate shop’s P.J. Ladd after winning Video Part Of The Year for P.J. Ladd’s Wonderful Horrible Life? Luckily, Frank Gerwer stepped up and took the award. Coliseum, did the hand-crafted award ever make it back to the shop?

When Duane Peters was announced for the Legend award, his band The Hunns lit up the stage and blared through a mini set of songs. I don’t know if the crowd was paying attention to anyone on stage but Corey Parks (ex-Nashville Pussy bassist) because she was hanging out all over the place and then ended the set by blowing fireballs at the crowd. Luckily, no one overdid it with the hairspray or there could have been some problems.

We placed the category winners on the next few spreads, so there’s no reason to waste words listing the winners here.—Eric Sentianin
