Check out the Indigo Skate camp which is based in a Zulu Village in the Valley of 1000 hills in South Africa. The camp approaches skating not only as a way of life, but as a way to a better life.
Through skateboarding, Indigo founder and skateboarder Dallas Oberholzer has transformed the lives of many people in the village by creating job opportunities as well as a chance to an education and travel. In this article their story is told from Dallas’ point of view, Mazwi, a boy from the village who has been part of the transformation and Connor Mullen, a volunteer from the US who has traveled to Indigo a number of times work.
It’s a really inspiring interview about the way that skateboarding has been used to transform many people’s lives in a community where you wouldn’t expect it to even reach.
